How to import into Pakistan, step by step.
From arrival notice to your warehouse door — the documents, duties, customs clearance and delivery involved in a Pakistani import, explained from hands-on experience at Karachi's ports.
What you need to import into Pakistan
Before your cargo arrives, make sure you have importer credentials (an NTN / Sales Tax registration and access to WeBOC / PSW) and the core shipping documents: the Bill of Lading (or Air Waybill), commercial invoice and packing list. Certain commodities also require regulatory approvals or certificates.
Arrival & documents
Carrier issues an arrival notice; you (or your agent) gather BL, invoice and packing list.
Goods Declaration filed
Import GD lodged on WeBOC/PSW with the correct HS code and declared value.
Assessment & duty
Customs assesses duty and taxes; payment is made.
Examination & release
Physical/scanner exam if selected; queries resolved; cargo released.
Haulage & delivery
Container hauled to your facility and de-stuffed; empty returned.
Duties & taxes to expect
Import charges vary by commodity, but typically include customs duty (set by HS code), sales tax, withholding tax, and sometimes regulatory or additional duty. Accurate HS classification and valuation up front prevents surprises and disputes. Ask us for an indicative landed-cost before you ship.
Avoiding delays & demurrage
Most import pain is avoidable: complete paperwork, correct HS codes, and prompt clearance keep containers moving. Slow clearance means demurrage and detention charges. Owned-fleet haulage helps you clear and return boxes inside free time.
